We’ve once again combed the far reaches of our attic to find prizes for the second-annual Retro Con trivia contest!! We’ve got a good mix of both new and retro items, with more on the way.
Hosted once again by our good friend Mike Breaux of The Breaux Show, the contest will be held in the panel room at the convention (start time and duration to be determined). But this year we decided to include a few costumed characters to help Mike out!
Our friend Kevin Conn as Unemployed Skeletor!
And our friend Robert Franzese as Peter Griffin!
There are no age restrictions, anyone can watch and play! We will reveal each item one at a time, then ask a trivia question related to it, after which we will randomly select a person in the audience that has their hand raised to answer. If they get it right, they win the prize on the spot. If not, we ask a different audience member. Wet, lather, rinse, repeat. It’s very free and open!
So stop by and test your knowledge of all things geek!
Great Scott!! We’re kicking off our Retro Con 2014 raffle list with the device that makes time travel possible: The FLUX CAPACITOR!
An official release by Diamond Select, the prop is made to the same scale as the movie version and comes with the outer box shown. The outer casing is solid metal and can be easily mounted on a wall (or over your toilet as Doc might do). Opening the outer case and turning a knob allows you to turn on and adjust the speed of the lights!
This will be one of our primary raffle prizes for the show this year. You get one free raffle ticket for purchasing admission to the show, but extra tickets will also be available for $1 each! Good luck!!
You were BORN to wear this stuff…
Our friend Jack has just sent us word that the Ghostbusters Proton Pack replica prop we announced as our main raffle prize for the show is NOW FINISHED!! These are shots of the actual prop up for grabs…
The pack does not include sound effects, but features full sequencing lights, removable particle thrower/neutrona wand, and everything you need to wear it out (and show people how you do things downtown)! The base shell is made of heavy-duty fiberglass, with the rest being created with a mix of metal, resin, styrene, and more. It is full scale and highly accurate to its movie counterpart! The weight is estimated at 18 pounds.
We’ve set a cut-off date of September 1st for Retro Con 2013 preregistration. This will give us a couple weeks to organize a full list of those that have pre-bought their tickets. With the date just under two months away, we’d like to give a rundown of the incentives for buying your tickets ahead of time:
-Preregistrants will have their own line at the show this year. As you enter the convention center lobby (near Hall D), look for a table to your right marked “PREREGISTRANTS”. You can pick up your passes and raffle tickets there, and avoid the long line to buy tickets.
-Besides receiving a raffle ticket which is good for any of our regular door prizes at the show, you will also be issued a separate ticket which will used for EXCLUSIVE drawing for preregistrants only! We have at least two this year, which will go off around noon:
Custom Transformer Shadowknight in box!
Custom-made Yarn Bumblebee! (G1 toy next to it not included, but shown for scale purposes).
Chuck and Rod of CR Custom Toys have created a new and unique figure that will premiere at Retro Con 2013! It’s based on the Transformers Season 3 episode “Only Human” which features an older version of Cobra Commander known simply as “Old Snake”…
Using various parts from contemporary GI Joe figures, and with a little customizing and paint, they have created a 3 & 3/4″ scale version of the character!
Now You’re Playing With Power!
Our latest raffle prize comes direct from the Too Many Games show this past weekend. It’s a vintage Nintendo NES Action Set!
Who could forget the thrill of playing the original Super Mario on this system for the first time? Or trying to shoot the annoying dog in Duck Hunt for laughing at you for missing the targets? Well one lucky attendee can relive those feelings all over again!
The set has everything originally included: The system, two game pads, light gun Zapper, Mario/Duck Hunt cart, all hook-ups, instructions, packing foam, and the box!
For you Lego and Ghostbusters fans out there, you’ll love this door prize! It’s a custom made Lego Ecto-1 car! A big thanks to Austin Welch of geewunner.com, the designer of this wonderful toy!
Let’s heat ‘em up! Our big raffle prize for Retro Con 2013 is going to be an unlicensed nuclear accelerator and particle thrower, aka a Ghostbusters proton pack! You can’t buy this in any store, it will be custom made by three of our friends that are huge Ghostbusters fans and experienced propmakers. The pack will not have sound, but will feature full sequencing lights and include everything you need to wear it! The base shell will be made of heavy-duty fiberglass, with the rest being created with a mix of metal, resin, styrene, and more. The pack has not been made yet, but will look very much like the pack shown (which utilizes the same base shell). It will be full scale and highly accurate to its movie counterpart. We’re super excited to have this as part of our show!!
Retro Con’s first exclusives are these custom Minibots that transform from robots into Herbie the Love Bug, KITT, Speed Buggy and the General Lee!
