Meet Boglins Designer Tim Clarke at Retro Con 2022!

March 8, 2022 Leave a comment

Tim Clarke 2022 3b

We welcome toy and puppet designer Tim Clarke back for Retro Con 2022! Once known as the “King of Gross” due to his penchant for inventing toys with wonderfully grotesque designs and gimmicks, Tim is the co-creator of cult favorite 80’s toylines Sectaurs and Boglins!

Though we might have to promote Boglins from “cult toyline” back to full “hit toyline”, because they’ve been back in full force for the past year and a half. In fact Tim sold out of his entire stock of Boglins by early Saturday afternoon at the show last year, having to rely on stock from another vendor to keep him going. A good problem to have!

Tim started his career designing and building puppets for the Jim Henson Company, most notably the Mystics and Slaves he sculpted and designed for The Dark Crystal. He also worked on puppets for Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and for Fraggle Rock where he created Traveling Matt!

Tim will be at Retro Con both days, and you can find him in Row 1 at the show. He’s hoping to have the upcoming “Bat Boglins” ready to go by then, and possibly new surprises!

See a Screen-Used KITT at Retro Con 2022!

KRH 3bb

This September marks the 40th Anniversary of the classic 80’s action series Knight Rider, and the Knight Rider Historians youtube channel will be making a “shadowy flight” to Retro Con to help us celebrate in style… and bringing a screen-used KITT with them!

The team at Knight Rider Historians are dedicated to promoting the legacy of Knight Rider every way possible. From interviews with cast and crew, to episode commentaries, to unraveling show mysteries, to tracking down and preserving screen-used props from the series. In fact, they possess the world’s largest collection of Knight Rider props!

KRH’s front man Joe will be joining us at Retro Con, and bringing along a screen-used KITT! This piece of tv history was used for stunts in seasons 3 & 4 of the show. While roughly 25 KITTs were used in the creation of the series, only 5 are known to remain. This is one of those surviving cars, saved from a terrible junkyard fate and restored to its former glory. In recent years, this KITT has been seen on an episode of Jay Leno’s Garage, and was even reunited with The Hoff himself on Good Morning America in 2019!

Knight Rider Historians and KITT will be at the show all weekend, and photo ops with the car will be available for a fee. Now’s your chance to be Michael Knight!

Meet Terry Kiser at Retro Con 2021!

July 27, 2021 Leave a comment

Terry Kiser Comp 5ll

“Bernie may be dead, but he’s still the life of the party!”

Please welcome actor Terry Kiser to Retro Con 2021!

A diverse character actor of over 50 years, Terry is best known for playing rubbed out insurance exec Bernie Lomax in the 80’s screwball comedy classic ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’! Usually an actor’s role ends when their character dies in a movie, but in the case of Bernie, he led a very active deathstyle! If you can watch this movie and not laugh at the antics of Bernie as he’s helplessly dragged across land and sea, you just might be dead on the inside…

Terry would reprise his title role in the 1993 sequel ‘Weekend at Bernie’s II’, this time with 100% more voodoo! Though it didn’t make the splash the original did, it did give birth to the “Bernie Dance” craze, where hundreds of different youtubers filmed their own rendition of the voodoo dance. No, seriously. Look it up.

Though widely known for comedy, Terry also played the sinister role of Dr. Crews in ‘Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood’, where he ended up as the 67th victim of Jason Voorhees. Deceitful and manipulative, “Bad News Crews” is often considered to be the most evil character in the entire franchise, which is saying a lot!

Terry also had the recurring role of nosy reporter Al Craven on Night Court, and played H.G. Wells in two episodes of Lois & Clark. He’s also had appearances on such popular shows of the 70’s & 80’s as Three’s Company, Knight Rider, WKRP In Cincinnati, Diff’rent Strokes, Hill Street Blues, and many more.

Terry Kiser will be at Retro Con both Saturday and Sunday, so come out and meet him! He’ll have the Bernie glasses in tow!

Okay, even we didn’t see this one coming…

Please welcome to Retro Con 2021, professional wrestler (and toy aficionado) Matt Cardona!

Growing up in Long Island New York, Matt’s childhood dream was becoming a pro wrestler. He fulfilled that dream in 2006 by signing with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), winning numerous championships in his 14 years there. His biggest in-ring achievement coming at WrestleMania 32, where in front of over 101,000 fans in AT&T Stadium, Matt won a ladder match to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship! He would stay with the WWE until 2020, and is now currently signed with IMPACT! Wrestling.

Matt is also a hardcore collector! In 2018, he started The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast with friend Brian Myers. The weekly podcast about their love of action figures has led into live shows, toy hunts, a YouTube channel, and their very own toy line. In addition to wrestling action figures, Matt also collects Star Wars, TMNT, Ghostbusters, Disney characters, and a whole lot more!

Matt Cardona will be appearing at Retro Con on SATURDAY ONLY! Signing times are 12pm to 3pm!

A huge thanks to the Gnome Club for contacting us and sponsoring Matt’s appearance at the show!!

Oaks, PA 19456

Concert start time: 8pm

Please arrive between 7pm and 8pm for concert check-in

**CONCERT TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT!**

__________________________

Please read concert details in full:

You DO NOT need to pre-register for (or attend) Retro Con itself to buy tickets for the concert. But likewise, purchasing a concert ticket does not grant you access into Retro Con.

Tickets will NOT be mailed to you. Please bring along a print-out of your Paypal transaction receipt. Our staff will use it to check you in. If you cannot print out your paypal receipt, your picture ID will also be just fine as long as it matches the name we have on file for the ticket(s). We will send you a confirmation via email that we received your payment.

Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE. However, in the unlikely event the concert is cancelled, full refunds will be given.

**Since this venue is not large, we will be requiring face masks for everyone regardless of covid vaccination status! Exceptions will be made for when eating or drinking.**

Please note you should enter through The Water Tower entrance at Arnold’s Family Fun Center, which is just to the right of the main entrance at Arnold’s (look for the blue awning). Arnold’s itself is located directly next door to The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks.

The concert start time is 8pm, though you can arrive for concert check-in any time after 7pm. But feel free to get to Arnold’s Family Fun Center early! They have a numerous fun activities such as go-carts, mini golf, lasertag, an upcoming “Bar-kade”, bowling, and much more!

The concert will run about one hour and fifteen minutes. The Cybertronic Spree will be available for a meet/greet immediately after the concert. Attendees can purchase band-related merchandise before and after the concert.

Please note that this is a General Admission/Standing Room Only concert. This means that there will be no chairs in the main audience section, and there will be no assigned positions. The staff at Arnold’s will of course do their best to accommodate attendees with disabilities.

There is a full bar in the venue, where attendees 21 and older can purchase drinks. There will also be a restaurant in that wing where attendees can order food.

There are no age restrictions at this event, though all ages require a concert ticket. We do not recommend bringing very young children to this event, as it is a rock concert played at full volume. Please also keep in mind the concert will be held in a bar setting (though the section will be filled only by our attendees).

We want to keep this event fun and safe for everyone! Anyone found to be disorderly will be asked to leave without refund.

Meet Boglins & Sectaurs Creator Tim Clarke at Retro Con 2021!

April 3, 2021 Leave a comment

The Boglins are back!!

We’re pleased to announce toy and puppet designer Tim Clarke will be returning for Retro Con 2021 (Official)! Once known as the “King of Gross”, Tim is the co-creator of cult favorite 80’s toylines Sectaurs and Boglins!

Though we may have to promote Boglins from “cult toyline” back to full “hit toyline”, due to recently coming off an extremely successful Kickstarter to revive the brand. Reaching nearly *ten times* its initial goal, the Boglins were put on the fast track to world domination! You can currently pre-order the brand new Boglins on websites such as Gamestop and Walmart. We happily backed the kickstarter and look forward to receiving our King Drool in the mail!

Tim started his career designing and building puppets for the Jim Henson Company. Most notable were the Mystics and Slaves that he sculpted and designed for the movie the Dark Crystal, guided by the incredible drawings of Brian Froud. He also worked on puppets for Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock for which he created ‘Traveling Matt’.

Tim will be at Retro Con both days, and you can find him in Row 2 at the show. He’s hoping to have the upcoming Halloween-themed Boglins ready to go by then!

Meet William Katt at Retro Con 2021!

March 18, 2021 Leave a comment

“Believe it or Not”, this month in 1981 marked the premiere of The Greatest American Hero on ABC!

We were super-bummed when we had to cancel the convention last year, because we were very excited to bring this particular guest to the show. But that’s okay… because now we get to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the show that made him a household name!

Please welcome actor William Katt to Retro Con 2021!

Mr. Katt is best known for playing the lead role in the classic 80’s action/comedy series ‘The Greatest American Hero’! Running for 3 seasons, the show followed the exploits of mild-mannered teacher Ralph Hinkley, who receives a super powered suit from aliens during a fate encounter in the desert. Immediately *losing* the instructions, Ralph has to learn the suit’s powers through trial and error, often with comical results. With the help of his FBI friend Bill and girlfriend Pam, together they use Ralph’s super powers to fight crime and injustice around the globe… one crash at a time.

Fondly remembered to this day, you can find the show on a multitude of channels and streaming services. And the theme song from the show, ‘Believe it or Not’ (sung by Joey Scarbury), is also still in regular rotation on radio stations across the country. Also, not a single Retro Con goes by that we don’t have an attendee dressed up as the character!

You’ve seen William in several well known movies as well, such as Stephen King’s Carrie (1976), the cult dinosaur classic Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend (1985), and the popular horror/comedy House (1986). He’s also done voice acting, playing Green Guardsman in the Justice League animated series, and Hawkman in Batman: Brave and the Bold!

William is scheduled to be at the show both days, and will take part in a Q&A panel hosted by Fandom Spotlite.
