Meet Kathy Garver at Retro Con 2023!
Spider Friends… GO FOR IT!!!
Please welcome to Retro Con 2023, actor and author Kathy Garver!!
Kathy is beloved for her portrayal of Firestar, one of Spider-Man’s amazing friends on the 1980’s animated hit ‘Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends’! The show ran for three seasons as part of NBC’s Saturday morning line-up, making its indelible mark on pop culture! The show still holds up today through its charming animation, energetic music, and first-rate voice acting. If you’ve never seen the show, it can be streamed on Disney Plus.
An original character created for the series, Firestar/Angelica Jones proved so popular that she turned up in her own comic mini-series, quickly becoming a full-fledged character in the Marvel comics universe! She’s been a member of both the X-Men and the Avengers, has had a wide assortment of action figures and other merchandise based on her, and has even made appearances in modern cartoons and video games!
Kathy is also very well known for her on-screen work, and we would be remiss not to mention her iconic role as Cissy Davis on the classic 1960’s sitcom ‘Family Affair’! The series centered on bachelor & engineer Bill Davis who is given custody of his late brother’s three children: Cissy, Jody & Buffy, raising them with the help of his traditional English butler, Mr. French. The show ran for 5 seasons, and has been in reruns ever since, drawing in new fans with each generation that discovers it! It’s also the show that Zed was getting emotional over in Police Academy 2…
Kathy’s a real sweetheart and we look forward to bringing her to the show, and we hope you’ll come out to meet her too! Save the dates: September 9th & 10th in Oaks, Pennsylvania!

Meet Marvel and Transformers Writer Bob Budiansky at Retro Con!
Please welcome comic book veteran Bob Budiansky to Retro Con 2022!
Bob enjoyed a 20-year career at Marvel Comics as editor, illustrator, and writer. As an editor, he oversaw titles that included Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four. As an illustrator, he rose to prominence as the cover artist for Ghost Rider, eventually taking over the penciling chores for the entire book. He also created his own Marvel Comics monthly series- Sleepwalker!
Bob was also instrumental in the early years of G1 Transformers! Over a single weekend in 1983, Bob crafted character names and bios for nearly all of the Autobot and Decepticon characters from the first year of the line. These bios ended up directly on the toy packaging, and were used as a guideline for writing the characters’ personalities in the G1 comic and tv series. Bob went on to write character bios for over 250 Transformers characters over the course of six years, in the process coining such iconic Transformer names as Grimlock, Wheeljack, Starscream, and Megatron!
Bob was also script writer for 50 issues of the original Marvel Transformers comic, occasionally penciling the cover art. In these pages, Bob originated the idea of the Autobot Matrix, which would go on to be a mainstay in Transformers lore.
Bob will be joining us both days of the show. He has also kindly agreed to be part of a panel at the show, which will include a presentation documenting his involvement with the Transformers brand. But he would also love to hear your questions about his work apart from Transformers! 🙂
