Meet Matt Frewer at Retro Con 2026!
C-C-C-Catch the wave! Meet the one and only Matt Frewer this September at Retro Con 2026 in Oaks, PA!!
Long before AI chatbots, virtual influencers, and uncanny digital humans became everyday reality, Matt Frewer was already playing the world’s first “computer-generated” TV host: Max Headroom!! Ironic that everyone in tech today is spending billions to make AI look as real as possible, when back in the ‘80s they took a perfectly real human being and worked overtime to make him look as synthetic and uncanny as possible.
Known for his frantic personality, biting wit, glitchy mannerisms, and crazy neon backgrounds, Max Headroom became an instant pop culture icon, with his visage being seen on scores of merchandise, becoming a spokesperson for Coke, and being parodied to this day in movies, tv, and music! He starred in his own TV shows and specials, and even teamed up with the band Art of Noise for their synth classic ‘Paranoimia’! The song, the video, and surreal visuals are like watching an intercepted pirate broadcast from another dimension…
But Matt Frewer’s career goes WAY beyond cyber celebrities! He gave an unforgettable performance as the chaotic Trashcan Man in Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’ miniseries, played unhinged neighbor Big Russ Thompson in ‘Honey, I Shrunk the Kids’, and headlined the cult offbeat 80’s sitcom ‘Doctor Doctor’! Genre fans also know him from Eureka, Orphan Black, Watchmen (2009), Fear the Walking Dead, and Dawn of the Dead (2004). Plus Frewer delivered one of the all-time standout guest performances in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Professor Berlinghoff Rasmussen in the classic episode “A Matter of Time”!
Frewer’s voice acting resume is equally impressive! He voiced title character in The Pink Panther (1993), MacArthur Duff on Tiny Toon Adventures, “The Leader” in The Incredible Hulk (1996), Panic in Disney’s Hercules (movie, show, games, and ride), Sidney Debris on Batman: The Animated Series, Jackal on ‘Gargoyles’, and the Bishop on the Castlevania Netflix series. Basically, if your childhood had animation, sci-fi, horror, or weirdness in it, Matt Frewer was probably there somewhere…
D-D-D-Don’t miss your chance to meet one of the most unique performers in sci-fi and pop culture history at Retro Con 2026! Bring your collectibles, your questions, your nostalgia, and maybe even a can of New Coke for maximum ‘80s effect!
