Ian James Corlett to Attend Retro Con 2021!
“ππ³π’π¨π°π―! ππ³π’π¨π°π―! ππ°π€π¬ π΅π©π¦ ππ³π’π¨π°π―! ππ³π’π¨π°π― ππ’ππ π‘!”
If you know that epic theme song, you’ll know our next guest… voice actor Ian James Corlett!

When Dragon Ball Z first reached american TV in 1996, it’s was Ian you heard as the voice of main character Goku! Though considerably edited for violence at the time compared to its japanese original, the show was an instant hit with US audiences and has been a staple of the western anime scene ever since. For those who watched Dragon Ball Z in its early days in syndication and on Toonami, you got to know the character of Goku through Ian’s earnest and wholesome voice performance. Ian voiced the character throughout the entire Saiyan saga and the first half of the Frieza saga. Ian also played the turtle hermit Master Roshi in those same sagas.
You’ll also know Ian as the voice of Maximal cool cat “Cheetor” on the popular Transformers series Beast Wars! Starting out as an impetuous and reckless youth, the character matured over the course of the three seasons of the Beast Wars cartoon (and follow-up series Beast Machines) and became a valued member of the Maximal team. Ian was also the voice of the Axalon’s onboard computer “Sentinel” on the show.
Other notable characters Ian has played include the “blue bomber” himself Mega Man on the 1994 cartoon (as well as his faithful pooch Rush!), Glitch Bob and Guardian Bob on Reboot, Dr. Wiley on Captain N: The Game Master, Gnawgahyde and Rampart on GI Joe, Dr. Tofu on Ranma 1/2, T-bone and Bullzeye on Street Sharks, Coconuts on Sonic the Hedgehog, Hugh Test on Johnny Test, Chef Remy Bones on Vampirina, and many more!
Come meet him at Retro Con and give us your best Kamehameha!!

Get your Photo with Jurassic Park JP18 at Retro Con 2021!
Retro Con may not have a T-rex (yet), but we’re happy to have Jurassic Adventures’ JP18 back on the show floor for Retro Con 2021!

Made from a Jeep Wrangler, this replica has been accurately customized and augmented to resemble the staff vehicles used in the original Jurassic Park movie (and in a callback scene from Jurassic World). Look for it in the car section on the show floor, where the owners will have a themed backdrop and “jungle” set. For a small fee, attendees can get their photo taken with the set, complete with JP-related props for them to hold and interact with. A photo op 65 Million Years in the Making!

A big thanks to jeep owners Frank Bedo and Monica Tulay for bringing their replica to the show! Monica plans to bring some of her fantastic retro-themed costumes to the show, so be sure to visit her table right next to JP 18!!
Meet Boglins & Sectaurs Creator Tim Clarke at Retro Con 2021!

The Boglins are back!!
We’re pleased to announce toy and puppet designer Tim Clarke will be returning for Retro Con 2021 (Official)! Once known as the βKing of Grossβ, Tim is the co-creator of cult favorite 80βs toylines Sectaurs and Boglins!
Though we may have to promote Boglins from “cult toyline” back to full “hit toyline”, due to recently coming off an extremely successful Kickstarter to revive the brand. Reaching nearly *ten times* its initial goal, the Boglins were put on the fast track to world domination! You can currently pre-order the brand new Boglins on websites such as Gamestop and Walmart. We happily backed the kickstarter and look forward to receiving our King Drool in the mail!
Tim started his career designing and building puppets for the Jim Henson Company. Most notable were the Mystics and Slaves that he sculpted and designed for the movie the Dark Crystal, guided by the incredible drawings of Brian Froud. He also worked on puppets for Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock for which he created ‘Traveling Matt’.
Tim will be at Retro Con both days, and you can find him in Row 2 at the show. He’s hoping to have the upcoming Halloween-themed Boglins ready to go by then!

Meet William Katt at Retro Con 2021!
“Believe it or Not”, this month in 1981 marked the premiere of The Greatest American Hero on ABC!
We were super-bummed when we had to cancel the convention last year, because we were very excited to bring this particular guest to the show. But that’s okayβ¦ because now we get to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the show that made him a household name!
Please welcome actor William Katt to Retro Con 2021!

Mr. Katt is best known for playing the lead role in the classic 80’s action/comedy series ‘The Greatest American Hero’! Running for 3 seasons, the show followed the exploits of mild-mannered teacher Ralph Hinkley, who receives a super powered suit from aliens during a fate encounter in the desert. Immediately *losing* the instructions, Ralph has to learn the suit’s powers through trial and error, often with comical results. With the help of his FBI friend Bill and girlfriend Pam, together they use Ralph’s super powers to fight crime and injustice around the globe… one crash at a time.
Fondly remembered to this day, you can find the show on a multitude of channels and streaming services. And the theme song from the show, ‘Believe it or Not’ (sung by Joey Scarbury), is also still in regular rotation on radio stations across the country. Also, not a single Retro Con goes by that we don’t have an attendee dressed up as the character!
You’ve seen William in several well known movies as well, such as Stephen King’s Carrie (1976), the cult dinosaur classic Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend (1985), and the popular horror/comedy House (1986). He’s also done voice acting, playing Green Guardsman in the Justice League animated series, and Hawkman in Batman: Brave and the Bold!
William is scheduled to be at the show both days, and will take part in a Q&A panel hosted by Fandom Spotlite.

Retro Con 2020 Is Cancelled
With great sadness, we must report the cancellation of Retro Con 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic situation.
We did our best to hang in there, and tried to look into options to create a safe atmosphere for the show this year. But the current Green Phase protocol in Pennsylvania has severely restricted how many people can be at an indoor event, making a convention the size of Retro Con an impossibility. There is no scheduled end to the Green Phase, or even what comes after, so we have no choice but to pull the plug at this time.
Some shows in the area are planning to go forward this year by limiting how many people are in the hall at once, requiring masks, and enforcing social distancing. Retro Con is a very social event by nature, so we feel that these restrictions are the opposite of what our show is about. We’d rather put our effort into putting on a better show in 2021, than putting on a compromised show this year.
We are extremely sorry to disappoint you all. We hate to be yet another cancelled show on the calendar, especially at a time when fun diversions are in short supply. Even though the show is a lot of work for us, it’s also equally rewarding. The kind words we’ve received from attendees and vendors over the years, including this year, have made it all worth it. A silver lining is that we can finally give our extremely dedicated staff and volunteers a much needed break. We can’t thank them enough for their constant help and support over the past 8 years.
We will do our best to move our 2020 guests to next year’s show, as we were just as excited to meet them as many of you were. And if 2021 proves to be a more settled year, we hope to bolster our guest list further!
If you purchased a ticket to Retro Con 2020, we will be sending you a refund immediately. And to our 2020 vendors, please be on the lookout for an email from us this week, which will contain your refund options. If you don’t receive the email by Wednesday, please contact us.
Also, if you reserved a hotel room at one of our host hotels, please don’t forget to contact them for cancellation! We had group rates set up at the Hilton Garden Inn and Hampton Inn.
We’ve never been very big on “moichandising”, but if you’d like to support Retro Con during our unscheduled down time, we’ve started designing t-shirts and other show merchandise on Teespring! If you feel so inclined, you can see our current items for sale here:
https://retrocons.com/merchandise/
We sincerely thank you for bearing with us during these uncertain times, and we really hope we can get back on track for 2021. We thank you for your support and we wish you all well! If you have any questions, please let us know.
Meet Transformers Writer Bob Budiansky at Retro Con 2020!
He was part of our show all the way back in 2013, and we’re pleased to announce his return for 2020. Please welcome to Retro Con 2020 writer and artist Bob Budiansky!
Bob was instrumental in the development of G1 Transformers in the early years of the brand. Over a single weekend in 1983, Bob crafted character names and bios for nearly all of the Autobot and Decepticon characters from the first year of the line. These bios ended up directly on the toy packaging, and were used as a guideline for writing the characters’ pesonalities in the G1 comic and tv series. Bob went on to write character bios for over 250 Transformers characters over the course of six years, and in the process coined such iconic Transformer names as Grimlock, Wheeljack, Starscream, and Megatron!
Bob was also script writer for 50 issues of the original Marvel Transformers comic, handled editing duties on the original comic mini-series, and would also pencil the occasional cover for the title. It’s in these pages that Bob originated the idea of the Autobot Matrix, which would go on to be a mainstay in Transformers lore.
Not a Transformers fan? Bob enjoyed a 20-year career at Marvel Comics as editor, illustrator, and writer. As an editor, he oversaw titles that included Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four. As an illustrator, he rose to prominence as the cover artist for Ghost Rider, eventually taking over the penciling chores for the entire book. And he also created his own Marvel Comics monthly series- Sleepwalker!
Bob will be joining us both days of the show. He has also kindly agreed to be part of a panel at the show, which will include a Powerpoint presentation documenting his involvement with the Transformers brand. But he would also love to hear your questions about his work apart from Transformers! π
Meet “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart at Retro Con 2020!
We’re super excited to bring yet another wrestling icon to Retro Con for 2020- Please welcome to the show “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart!
One of the greatest heel managers of all time, Jimmy has been a fixture of wrestling since the mid-80s when he joined the WWF. Over the years, he’s managed such legendary wrestlers as Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Ted DiBiase, Jerry Lawler, Greg Valentine, and many more!
Sporting his signature ‘loud’ outfits and with trademark megaphone in hand, Jimmy made sure he was the center of attention during backstage promos and by ringside! Spending 8 years in the WWF, Jimmy moved on to the WCW and other wrestling circuits for many years, before returning to the WWE in 2011 under a Legends contract.
Jimmy proudly embraces his wrestling persona and will be bringing it to Retro Con in September!
