RC tshirt test 4l

You’re going to wear a geeky shirt to the show anyway… might as well win something for it! Retro Con’s Retro T-shirt contest will be BACK for 2021!

A longstanding tradition at fan gatherings is attendees wearing t-shirts expressing their favorite characters and brands. Retro Con has turned this trend into a unique contest to win free stuff! Hosted once again by The Breaux Show, the Retro Con T-shirt contest will be held in the panel area midday on Saturday, and we want to see your Saturday best! Your t-shirt can be vintage, new, or custom made. As long as it’s retro-related, you’re welcome to enter!

Prizes this year include…

1st Place: A brand new Transformers Kingdom Rodimus Prime figure! An $85 value!

2nd Place: A brand new Turbo Man reissue figure from Funko! “Put that cookie down! NOW!”

3rd Place: A new LEGO Batmobile set! In their infinite wisdom, Lego decided this set didn’t need a Robin figure. So we’re adding one in ourselves!

We’ll have some “Honorable Mention” prizes as well.

**Contest Rules**

1: No water will be involved. ;P

2. The contest is open to anyone at Retro Con wearing a t-shirt with a retro-oriented logo or print on it (mid-90’s properties or older). Examples include: movies, cartoons, comics, tv shows, toy lines, company logos, mascots, music bands, and more!

3. There are no sign-ups needed. Interested contestant can line up outside of the panel area prior to the contest start time. (Start time to be determined soon!)

4. T-Shirts can be vintage, new, or custom-made. But bonus points will be given to t-shirts that are vintage or custom!

5. Only actual t-shirts can be entered.  Sorry, sweatshirts, jackets, snuggies, jerseys, hoodies, long-sleeve shirts, etc., will NOT be allowed.

6. The Retro Con t-shirt contest is a family-friendly event! Tees with overly sexual imagery or crude language will not be allowed. We must also insist that your t-shirt be reasonably sized to your body type.

7. We’ll allow a small group to enter as one contestant if they have t-shirts associated with each other.

8. The contest will be slated for about 30 minutes. Hosts will ask questions to the contestants on-hand, after which they will pick approximately 10 entrants to be finalists.

9. After our Finalists are picked, they will be asked to go to the front of the Panel area. An additional round of questions, along with some audience participation, will determine our 3 winners!

James Bond Lotus Esprit at Retro Con!

August 11, 2021 Leave a comment

RC Lotus 2g

Con… Retro Con…

Frank Bedo and Monica Tulay of Jurassic Adventures have a new toy- A classic Lotus Esprit, very similar to the model seen in the classic 1977 James Bond movie ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’! They’ll have their sleek sports car on the show floor at Retro Con for Secret Agent photo ops with attendees, right next to their JP jeep. The car is deceptively small and difficult to enter/exit, so for the moment they are only doing photos next to the car.

“Can you swim?” No promises yet, but Frank and Monica are also trying to rig up a “Wet Nellie” mode for the show! Representing one of the coolest scenes in James Bond history, where the Esprit drives off a pier and dramatically transforms into a submarine. A full 8 years before M.A.S.K., and 40 years before GTA5 did it! The Bond franchise may have moved to a more gritty and realistic style in recent years, but there’s something to be said of the camp and charm of classic James Bond gadgetry…

Spider Friends- GO FOR IT!!

Please welcome to Retro Con 2021, voice actor Dan Gilvezan!

Dan is best known in the retro realm as the voice of the original Bumblebee on G1 Transformers! Dan voiced the small but dynamic Autobot in over 45 episodes of the original G1 cartoon, as well as the 1986 feature film, and the Transformers: Devastation video game. The character has been an “evergreen” fan-favorite through numerous incarnations of the Transformers fiction and toy line since his debut.

And not to be upstaged by a Volkswagen, Dan has another huge role for retro fans: Spider-Man! Dan voiced the webslinger (and his alter ego Peter Parker) throughout 24 episodes of NBC’s Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends Saturday morning cartoon show! Though the show didn’t have a long episode run, it made its mark as one of the most remembered versions of Spider-Man to date due to its excellent voice acting and the chemistry between characters Spidey, Iceman, and Firestar!

Dan voiced other Transformers characters in the G1 series as well, including Hotspot, Outback, Scamper, Snapdragon, and Goldbug (the rebuilt version of Bumblebee). Other animation roles include Prince Dargon on Sectaurs, Slip Stream on GI Joe, Sean Harrison on Jem, and Cooler on Pound Puppies.

Dan is also an author! Dan has written an eclectic assortment of books over the past ten years, all available on Amazon. One book of note is Bumblebee & Me: Life as a G1 Transformer! The book details Dan’s years of recording for the G1 Transformers cartoon series and animated movie, and gives insight into the process of voice acting and his interactions with fellow voice actors of the era. Dan will have the book for sale at his table at Retro Con. It’s a fantastic read for any Transformers fan, and the cover art was done by Retro Con’s very own co-founder Rosemary!

Dan will be at the show all weekend, so stop by his table in the guest section to meet the voice of your childhood!

Meet Terry Kiser at Retro Con 2021!

July 27, 2021 Leave a comment

Terry Kiser Comp 5ll

“Bernie may be dead, but he’s still the life of the party!”

Please welcome actor Terry Kiser to Retro Con 2021!

A diverse character actor of over 50 years, Terry is best known for playing rubbed out insurance exec Bernie Lomax in the 80’s screwball comedy classic ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’! Usually an actor’s role ends when their character dies in a movie, but in the case of Bernie, he led a very active deathstyle! If you can watch this movie and not laugh at the antics of Bernie as he’s helplessly dragged across land and sea, you just might be dead on the inside…

Terry would reprise his title role in the 1993 sequel ‘Weekend at Bernie’s II’, this time with 100% more voodoo! Though it didn’t make the splash the original did, it did give birth to the “Bernie Dance” craze, where hundreds of different youtubers filmed their own rendition of the voodoo dance. No, seriously. Look it up.

Though widely known for comedy, Terry also played the sinister role of Dr. Crews in ‘Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood’, where he ended up as the 67th victim of Jason Voorhees. Deceitful and manipulative, “Bad News Crews” is often considered to be the most evil character in the entire franchise, which is saying a lot!

Terry also had the recurring role of nosy reporter Al Craven on Night Court, and played H.G. Wells in two episodes of Lois & Clark. He’s also had appearances on such popular shows of the 70’s & 80’s as Three’s Company, Knight Rider, WKRP In Cincinnati, Diff’rent Strokes, Hill Street Blues, and many more.

Terry Kiser will be at Retro Con both Saturday and Sunday, so come out and meet him! He’ll have the Bernie glasses in tow!

Tickets will NOT be mailed to you. Please bring along a print-out of your Paypal transaction receipt. Our staff will use it to check you in. If you cannot print out your paypal receipt, your picture ID will also be just fine as long as it matches the name we have on file for the ticket(s). There is a full bar in the venue, where attendees 21 and older can purchase drinks. There will also be a restaurant in that wing where attendees can order food.

There are no age restrictions at this event, though all ages require a concert ticket. We do not recommend bringing very young children to this event, as it is a rock concert played at full volume. Ian James Corlett to Attend Retro Con 2021!

July 8, 2021 Leave a comment

“𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯! 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯! 𝘙𝘰𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯! 𝘋𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘰𝘯 𝘉𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘡!”

If you know that epic theme song, you’ll know our next guest… voice actor Ian James Corlett!

IanJCorlett Comp3f

When Dragon Ball Z first reached american TV in 1996, it’s was Ian you heard as the voice of main character Goku! Though considerably edited for violence at the time compared to its japanese original, the show was an instant hit with US audiences and has been a staple of the western anime scene ever since. For those who watched Dragon Ball Z in its early days in syndication and on Toonami, you got to know the character of Goku through Ian’s earnest and wholesome voice performance. Ian voiced the character throughout the entire Saiyan saga and the first half of the Frieza saga. Ian also played the turtle hermit Master Roshi in those same sagas.

You’ll also know Ian as the voice of Maximal cool cat “Cheetor” on the popular Transformers series Beast Wars! Starting out as an impetuous and reckless youth, the character matured over the course of the three seasons of the Beast Wars cartoon (and follow-up series Beast Machines) and became a valued member of the Maximal team. Ian was also the voice of the Axalon’s onboard computer “Sentinel” on the show.

Other notable characters Ian has played include the “blue bomber” himself Mega Man on the 1994 cartoon (as well as his faithful pooch Rush!), Glitch Bob and Guardian Bob on Reboot, Dr. Wiley on Captain N: The Game Master, Gnawgahyde and Rampart on GI Joe, Dr. Tofu on Ranma 1/2, T-bone and Bullzeye on Street Sharks, Coconuts on Sonic the Hedgehog, Hugh Test on Johnny Test, Chef Remy Bones on Vampirina, and many more!

Come meet him at Retro Con and give us your best Kamehameha!!
