“Come, my trusty cohorts! Let us to the Monkeemobile! AWAY!”

Joining the DeLorean time machine and screen-used KITT on the show floor at Retro Con this year will be another famous pop culture car… The Monkeemobile!!

Built from a modified 1966 Pontiac GTO, this spectacular replica is based directly on the one seen in the 60’s Monkees tv show. Look for this beautiful machine in back of the hall- right next to Micky Dolenz himself!

The Monkeemobile will be available for photo ops with the car by itself, as well as combo photo ops with the car and Micky! We’ll post up the price list as we approach showtime.

Cybertronic Spree Guest Appearance and Concert!

May 27, 2022 Leave a comment

Spree Press Fire Tickets Soon

These “metalheads” are the real deal! Traveling to Oaks via the Spacebridge, please welcome back for Retro Con 2022… The Cybertronic Spree!

More than meets the eye, this band of Transformers are here on Earth with one critical mission: To party like it’s 1986! Join Hotrod, Arcee, Rumble, Unicron, Soundwave, Bumblebee, Shockwave, and all 5 faces of the Quintesson as they prove they’ve got the power to light your darkest hour! These rockstars in disguise play music from Transformers: The Movie (1986), plus themes from hit movies, cartoons, and video games, as well as their own original tunes. They blend their love for the 80’s and 90’s pop culture into an energon-fueled, unforgettable live show that just might transform you back into a kid again!

The band is in the midst of their ridiculously successful RAVAGE kickstarter campaign, designed to get their first original full-length album produced. It not only reached its goal… it reached its goal in an hour flat! The campaign has gone on to get funded nearly 7 times over, with over a week and a half still left to go. I think it’s safe to say this album is skipping gold/platinum/diamond, and going straight to “Energon” status! The kickstarter is still live if you’d like to get in on the action.

The Cybertronic Spree will be attending Retro Con early on Saturday (September 24th) as convention guests, where fans can meet the band and pick up band-related merchandise. Tentative times are 10am to 1pm.

Have a burning question for the band? The Cybertronic Spree will also be taking part in their FIRST-EVER RETRO CON Q&A PANEL at the show! Ask them anything! But please, no marriage proposals for Arcee. 😉

And of course, the Spree will also be performing a LIVE CONCERT that Saturday night at 8pm at the nearby Arnold’s at the Factory in Oaks! Tickets for this concert/after-party will be separate from Retro Con proper, and will go up for sale very soon! Keep watching the Retro Con and Cybertronic Spree pages.

Meet Marvel and Transformers Writer Bob Budiansky at Retro Con!

April 22, 2022 Leave a comment

Bob Bud 2022 2d

Please welcome comic book veteran Bob Budiansky to Retro Con 2022!

Bob enjoyed a 20-year career at Marvel Comics as editor, illustrator, and writer. As an editor, he oversaw titles that included Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Fantastic Four. As an illustrator, he rose to prominence as the cover artist for Ghost Rider, eventually taking over the penciling chores for the entire book. He also created his own Marvel Comics monthly series- Sleepwalker!

Bob was also instrumental in the early years of G1 Transformers! Over a single weekend in 1983, Bob crafted character names and bios for nearly all of the Autobot and Decepticon characters from the first year of the line. These bios ended up directly on the toy packaging, and were used as a guideline for writing the characters’ personalities in the G1 comic and tv series. Bob went on to write character bios for over 250 Transformers characters over the course of six years, in the process coining such iconic Transformer names as Grimlock, Wheeljack, Starscream, and Megatron!

Bob was also script writer for 50 issues of the original Marvel Transformers comic, occasionally penciling the cover art. In these pages, Bob originated the idea of the Autobot Matrix, which would go on to be a mainstay in Transformers lore.

Bob will be joining us both days of the show. He has also kindly agreed to be part of a panel at the show, which will include a presentation documenting his involvement with the Transformers brand. But he would also love to hear your questions about his work apart from Transformers! 🙂

Meet Micky Dolenz at Retro Con 2022!

April 8, 2022 Leave a comment

Micky Dolenz Comp 4d

We welcome the legendary Micky Dolenz to our guest list for Retro Con 2022! Alongside Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith, and Peter Tork, Micky is best known as the vocalist and drummer for the 60’s pop group sensation The Monkees!

Originally conceived as a 1966 sitcom (and a bit of a “riff” on the Beatles), the cast of the Monkees brought along a presence all their own, quickly becoming a full-fledged rock band by 1967. With such mega-hit songs as “Last Train to Clarksville”, “I’m a Believer”, “Pleasant Valley Sunday”, and “Daydream Believer”, this eclectic band sold more than 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music groups of all time!

The band later enjoyed a surprise revival in the 1980’s, when repeats of the Monkees show hit MTV and were an instant hit with audiences. This spawned an entire NEW generation of fans, officially turning the band into a multi-generational phenomenon! Although Davy, Peter, and Mike have all passed on, Micky still keeps the band’s legacy going strong through musical performances throughout the country and world.

A lot of people don’t realize Micky Dolenz is also a voice actor! Some of his voiceover roles include Skip from The Funky Phantom, Tod Devlin on Devlin, Min & Max on Batman: The Animated Series, Arthur and Captain Lemming on The Tick, and for a short while (believe it or not)… fabric softener mascot Snuggle Bear!

Micky will be attending Retro Con as a guest both Saturday and Sunday. There will not be a musical performance attached to this appearance, but Micky will be available to meet with fans and will be taking part in a Q&A panel at the show (day and time TBD). He’ll also be bringing along oodles (barrels?) of Monkees merchandise to sell! Prints, records, shirts, books, drumsticks, posters, drum heads, DVDs, and much more! Prices for merch/autographs/photo ops will be listed on the website as we get closer to showtime.

Meet Peter Newman at Retro Con 2022!

March 25, 2022 Leave a comment

Peter Comp 3nn

ThunderCats are officially on the loose! Rounding out our T-Cats reunion is actor Peter Newman!

Peter was the voice of Tygra, second-in-command of the ThunderCats Nobles! Architect and scientist of the group, Tygra was the designer of the majestic Cats Lair, and possessed the power of invisibility, as well as the ability to create illusions with his mind.

Like many in the cast, Peter also voiced other principal characters on the show. These include the evil mutant Monkian, the ThunderCat’s resident blacksmith Bengali, and WilyKit’s partner in mischief WilyKat!

Wings of silver, Nerves of steel! Peter also got to take the lead on Rankin/Bass’ follow-up series ‘SilverHawks’, where he played the fearless leader of the team: Quicksilver! He also voiced Mumbo Jumbo and Timestopper.

With reruns of these shows on streaming, and new action figures currently in production at Super7, both the ThunderCats and SilverHawks brands have been experiencing a major renaissance of late!

Peter Newman joins his colleagues Lynne Lipton and Larry Kenney at our ThunderCats (and SilverHawks!) reunion at Retro Con 2022- September 24th & 25th in Oaks, PA! Come meet them in person and catch their Q&A at the show!

Try the Retro Con Toy Time Machine!

March 18, 2022 Leave a comment

Vending 2g

It’s funny when a new show feature gets dropped in your lap…

An old friend of ours is moving out of the country, and unexpectedly gifted us this genuine capsule vending machine! (henceforth to be referred to as a “gumball machine”, because we’re retro like that…)

Anyway, this gumball machine happens to be filled with toy prizes from the past 40+ years, so we’re bringing it to the show as a fun new feature! If you’ve got two quarters burning a hole in your pocket, come give the Retro Con Toy Time Machine a spin!

Pictures shown are prizes we actually spotted in this machine. We don’t want to spoil it all, but you can expect items from such categories as robots, kaiju, video games, cartoons, sports, aliens, and monsters. We’re pretty sure we encountered one or two cursed objects in there as well… It’s fun!

A big thanks to our friend Steve for donating this to the show! We wish you the best of luck with your move.

Meet Lion-O Voice Actor Larry Kenney at Retro Con 2022!

Larry 2022 Comp 7b

Retro! Retro! Retro! Retro Con… HOOO!!!

We can’t have a 10th anniversary celebration without the Lord of the ThunderCats, can we? Please welcome the legendary Larry Kenney back for Retro Con 2022!

Larry is of course best known for voicing iconic 80’s hero Lion-O on the cartoon with possibly the greatest intro song of all time… ThunderCats! Larry also voiced Jackalman and Safari Joe on the show, as well as Bluegrass, Buzzsaw, and Poker-Face on the Rankin/Bass follow-up series Silverhawks.

Adding to his eclectic list of characters, Larry also voiced classic cereal mascots Count Chocula and Cocoa Puffs Sonny, the Chief on Teen Titans Go (with a cameo as Lion-O in one episode!), JB Cripps on Red Dead Online, and is even the voice of Skittles Candy! “Retro the Rainbow! Taste the Rainbow!”

Larry will be joining us both days this year, and will be taking part in a Q&A at the show. Don’t miss your chance to meet this cool cat in person!

Meet Boglins Designer Tim Clarke at Retro Con 2022!

March 8, 2022 Leave a comment

Tim Clarke 2022 3b

We welcome toy and puppet designer Tim Clarke back for Retro Con 2022! Once known as the “King of Gross” due to his penchant for inventing toys with wonderfully grotesque designs and gimmicks, Tim is the co-creator of cult favorite 80’s toylines Sectaurs and Boglins!

Though we might have to promote Boglins from “cult toyline” back to full “hit toyline”, because they’ve been back in full force for the past year and a half. In fact Tim sold out of his entire stock of Boglins by early Saturday afternoon at the show last year, having to rely on stock from another vendor to keep him going. A good problem to have!

Tim started his career designing and building puppets for the Jim Henson Company, most notably the Mystics and Slaves he sculpted and designed for The Dark Crystal. He also worked on puppets for Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and for Fraggle Rock where he created Traveling Matt!

Tim will be at Retro Con both days, and you can find him in Row 1 at the show. He’s hoping to have the upcoming “Bat Boglins” ready to go by then, and possibly new surprises!
